FIND YOUR TRIBE

We’ve all heard the phrase,  “you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Seth Godin says, “One of the most powerful of our survival mechanisms is to be part of a tribe, to contribute to (and take from) a group of like-minded people. We are drawn to leaders and to their ideas, and we can’t resist the rush of belonging and the thrill of the new.”

Early in the pandemic, there were definitely a few weeks when I was nervous about what our future would hold.   Members were dropping—fast!

Everyone bought a Peloton.  People were outfitting their garage as if gyms would be a thing of the past.

It seemed as if the shutdown would never end.  The dates kept getting pushed out.  Month after month the gym was empty.

While the pandemic isn’t over, people are returning.  We’re not out of this pandemic yet, people are ready to return. Smaller gyms where access is controlled and you know everyone there are growing again.  People are looking to find “their” people again.

We trained hard online.  But once we got back here, together, we all felt the difference.  The energy inside these doors is unmatched.  There’s a difference when you’re here in person.  You can feel it, we can feel it.  Your friends are pushing you to go faster or to get that extra rep.  You didn’t think you could until you did.

Dang, it feels good to see those smiles post-workout.

Outside the world may feel like it’s crumbling.  But in here, there’s peace, there’s joy when you’re fighting with your tribe.  Workouts at 6 a.m. don’t seem nearly as early when surrounded by your people.   That feeling can’t be recreated through a screen.

There’s something amazing about a group of people that suffer and sweat together.

Tribes of all sorts are important because:

-Life will get hard.  You will fail.  You won’t always make the right choice.  You want and need the support of a tribe.

-When you need to do something you don’t want to but need to.  You need your tribe to believe in you more than you do.

-There are people that care about you. You need to find them.
